oil wells up to 7,000 ft. deep has been produced by Woodfield Hoist and Associated Industries, Ltd., Rochester, Kent. The rig is based on a Scammell Constructor 21-ft. 9-in, wheelbase chassis, which is powered by a RollsRoyce C6 N.F.L. oil engine. A similar engine, mounted at the centre of the chassis, drives the draw works through a hydraulic torque converter.

From the six-speed constant-mesh gearbox, the drive goes to a transposing box, which incorporates an auxiliary two-speed gearbox. All three driving axles are of the Seammell epicyclic type, which allow for full oscillation when travelling over rough or soft ground. such as usually prevails in the oilfields.

An interesting feature of the rig is that the chassis members are jointed to allow the Ideco Woodfield KM-89-180-C telescopic mast to be left at a well. The chassis side members of the Constructor arc extended to accommodate
