RETURN fares on 93 services 1 • operated by the Western Welsh Omnibus Co., Ltd., are to be raised on April 3, according to a decision of the South Wales Licensing Authority. In granting the increases, the Authority said he hoped that if the fuel tax were reduced in the Budget an application to reduce fares would be made.

Mr. S. D. Herington, for the company, said that costs had risen by £264,350 a year since the last increase in March, 1953. The new rates would bring in an estimated £14,500 a year.

The company also intended to apply for increases in fares in the Monmouthshire valleys which would produce another £46,000.

Great Yarmouth Corporation were, on Tuesday, given permission to

increase their fares. Mr. H. Blackburn, general manager, told the Licensing Authoritx that there had been a decline in evening bus traffic since television programmes from a temporary transmitter in Norfolk began operating on February 1.

SPEC1AL A licences for another 19 lorries have been granted by the Western and Northern Licensing Authorities, it was announced on Tuesday. They are:— Western Area: F. Nash and Son, Ltd., The Royal Forest Factory. Coleford, two vehicles (I5 tons 12 cwt.): Messrs. F. Sweeting and Sons. Station Road. Sandford. one (2 tons 16 cwt.) assigned by S. Ball and Son (Transport), Ltd., Chipping Sodbury; Tone Vale Transport Co., Church Street, Wivcliscombe, one (3 tons) assigned by Messrs. P. Langdon. J. Rice and E. Dowling. of the same address.

Northern Area: Mr. A. S. Blake. 16 Tenth Avenue, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, one 13 tons 17 cwt.) assigned by R.A.H. Transporters. Ltd.. 28 The Side. AN A LICENCE FOR FOUR MORE VEHICLES

AN A licence for four additional vehicles was granted to Messrs. Pulkinghom Bros., Prudhoe-on-Tyne, by the Northern Deputy Licensing Authority on Monday. It was stated that the firm had secured a contract for the removal of excavated material from a new dry dock at WaIlsend. When this work was under way, many more vehicles would be required.

In addition, up to 500 tons of coal a day were being moved from two drift pits. Day and night shifts were worked.

Two vehicles were required for a contract with the Milk Marketing Board.
