Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

STEPHEN MARTIN, chief executive of Scunthorpe-based Clugston Group, will appear on the Channel 4 series Undercover Boss tonight (25 June) to find out what life is like at the coalface of the logistics and construction business. Clugston Group, which turned over £141.7m in the year ending January 2009, employs more than 600 people. and on top of its Clugston Distribution Services logistics subsidiary, has interests in construction and property.

As part of the filming for the programme. Martin worked as an 'undercover' labourer under an alias for two weeks on a number of the group's construction sites, as well as working with drivers in the fleet.

Martin tells CM that witnessing the impact of losing skills from an ageing workforce forced him to take measures to plug the potential gap, and he encourages other bosses in the industry to conduct similar exercises.

• A full interview with Martin will appear in a future issue of CM.
