• Siebe (Tecalemit) claims to be the largest manufacturer of garage equipment in Europe since buying the garage equipment division of Laycock Engineering from parent company GKN. Since completing the deal, which did not include the name Laycock, last November, Tecalemit has rationalised the product range to eliminate duplication. Laycock Engineering is increasing the number of distributors for its transmission products such as the three in one clutch pack and have recently invested in a new tractor clutch test shop. Although Laycock makes original equipment clutches for Ford, Volvo and Jaguar cars, is market leaders in clutches for off-road vehicles, and makes clutches to fit many light vans and cars, it has no plans to make clutches for larger commercial vehicles, Sales of Laycock lift and Truck Checkwear equipment are now handled by Tecalemit head office in Plymouth, although spares still come from the Laycock factory at Sheffield. Tecalemit lubrication equipment products will continue unaltered, the rationalisation affecting hydraulic equipment which was made by both companies.
