Mrs Margaret Whitaker, 42, is the branch sales manager of the Ipswich-based company, Firrnin, which makes trailers, trailer accessories and parts. She has been a member of the SMMT's Light Trailer section for the past 14 months and becomes chairman next January.
Whitaker was a beauty therapist before joining the motor industry less than two years ago. As a manager with Avon Cosmetics, Whitaker developed her skills and though she considers herself as a professional beauty therapist, it was her managerial prowess which clinched the post with Finnin.
It would be interesting to know how many present SMMT members could make a successful move from motor manufacturing to beauty therapy. . .
