Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Scania has developed a new anti-jacknife device for its articulated buses, which it claims is more stable than the system it previously used, built by Hope Technical Developments.

The new Scania system, for which patents are being sought, uses a series of electronic sensors coupled to two hydraulic cylinders in the articulated bus's coupling. A small black box containing a microprocessor monitors the sensors, which are fitted both to the coupling and to the vehicle's driving axles, and activates the hydraulic cylinders when necessary.

So far Scania has sold the system to Ka ssbnhrer Setra and Neoplan, and is using it on its own articulated buses, mainly for the Swedish and Norwegian markets.

There is potential for the system to be developed for use on articulated trucks, but Kjell Sekkenes, design and development manager at the company's bus production plant at Katrineholm, says there are no current plans to develop the astem for trucks.

L_1 A new damping device is now being used on Scania's Computer Aided Gearshift system. The device uses magnetic sensors to establish which gear is engaged, instead of the mechanical confirmation sensors which have been used up to now. Scania claims the system should be foolproof and plans to offer it in the UK on all K .chassis.
