• Following claims by ERF chairman Peter Foden that 1987 will be the company's best sales and production year since the glory days of 1979, the Sandbach-based truck builder has confirmed that vehicle production rates will shortly be raised from 14 to 17 trucks per day in August to meet demand.
During the first five months of 1987 ERF increased its registrations by 33%, selling 891 rigids and at-tics, compared with 673 vehicles sold during
the same period last year.
To meet the increase in sales, the company has taken on an extra 100 production workers since Christmas. ERF says the upturn is not temporary, and demand is expected to remain at current levels for the rest of the year.
