SHAREHOLDERS in the Co Durham based tipping gear and body company of Anthony Carrimore Ltd are being advised by their board to wait until details of two rival takeover bids are received in writing.
Edbro made the first offer, this was subsequently countered by York Trailer and then, last week, Edbro returned with an improved offer.
Mr J. Harrison, marketing director for York Trailers, told CM that his company is primarily interested in buying Carrimore for its potential. York would aim to increase the production and improve the design of Carrimore tipping gears and would develop the body construction side. Carrimore already export the greater percentage of their output and with the added facility of York's overseas network a greater sales penetration would be expected. The network of depots developed by York in the UK would also provide the fitting and backup facilities to strengthen the body market.
Speaking for Edbro, Mr G. Moss said that, if their bid was successful, Carrimore would be used to develop new areas in the tipping gear market plus substantially increasing their existing share of the UK market.
On the body side Edbro would expect to build on Carrimore's existing market strength.
The future of the trailer production would be open to doubt by both companies but only relatively small numbers are involved.
