Tachograph question time At the heart of the most contentious item of EEC transport legislation lies a piece of technical equipment—the tachograph. CM has asked three makers of EEC-type tachographs to form a panel to answer operators' and engineers' questions over the whole range of legal, technical and staff aspects of the device. They will open the session by explaining exactly what the Common Market legislation says about tachos, and what subsequent plans have been made in the UK.

Fred Kay is director and general manager of Lucas Kienzle Instruments Ltd. An engineer with long experience—in gas turbine and atomic power technology as well as electrical products—Mr Kay has been wholly responsible for setting up the Birmingham-based tachograph company. He is an MSc, a BSc (Eng), a Chartered Engineer, MIMechE and MIRTE.
