Heavy trucks—the gcw road ahead by David Rees Constraints are being imposed on truck design by conflicts and uncertainties in legislation. As a prime example, David Rees will consider the dilemma facing the designer of topweight trucks—will there be a continuing UK need for a specifically designed 32-ton (32.5-tonne) vehicle or will a basically 38-tonne vehicle fill the bill ? David Rees, Vauxhall Motors' chief engineer, Bedford commercial vehicles, has engineering design responsibility for Bedford vans, trucks and coaches. He transferred from General Motors, Detroit, to Vauxhall in 1969 and was project manager for the new TM truck range. He served with GM in the States for many years and is a BSc and PhD graduate.
