A silicone sealing compound called Hylosil, introduced by Marston Lubricants, is claimed to have advantages over other silicone rubber sealants owing to its catalyst system which means it does not effect alkaline metals, has a short curing period and does not give off an acetic acid vapour. In addition to acting as an adhesive for most materials including metal, ceramics, wood and plastic, the maker claims that it can produce a flexible seal which will not harden or crack over a range —50°C to +180°C. Hylosil comes in IlOgrarn (3.9oz) tubes, 340gram (12oz) cartridges and 25kg (551b) canisters.
Available from Marston Lubricants Ltd, Naylor Street, Liverpool L3.
