Rolls boss is SMMT president

NEWLY elected president of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders is RollsRoyce group managing director David Plastow.

Mr Plastow succeeds former Ford of Britain chairman, Sir William Batty who will become deputy president. Mr Plastow has had 26 years' experience in the motor industry starting his career with Vauxhall as an apprentice in 1950.

Vice president of the SMMT is to be Barrie Heath, chairman of GKN who is re-elected and he is joined by Bernard Scott, chairman of Lucas Industries and Patrick Griffith, deputy chairman of Turner and Newall Ltd.

Treasurer is Miles Breeden, joint managing director of Wilmot Breeden who was reelected. As well as the presidency Mr Plastow takes over the chairmanship of the SMMT executive committee.

James Wells is to be the new manager of the Pickfords Removals Eastbourne branch. He is moving to his new job from Maidstone where he is also manager.

Carryfast have appointed Louis Jackson as sales representative and administrator of their custom line of commercial vehicle accessories.

Phillip Finley has retired from Manchester Ford dealer H. and J. Quick after 50 years in the motor business. He has been a director of the company and is to take up a post as a consultant to the new car trade on a part-time basis, On the passenger front Donald Davies has been appointed assistant company secretary of the Western Welsh group in succession to Richard Dixon. Mr Davies has been management accountant with Western Welsh since 1974.

Geraint Humphreys is to be the new divisional manager for the Gwynedd district of Crosville Motor Services. He moves from Yorkshire Traction Company.

Ian Chapman has joined West Riding Automobile Company as general manager from Bristol Omnibus where he is secretary. He has been in his present job since 1974.

National Travel's new information officer with responsibility for press and public relations is pretty Jenny Mann who will be based at the company's Birmingham head office.
