• An infrastructure grant of up to 1.9m-50 per cent of the estimated cost of 1.3,801,000--is to be paid by the Department of the Environment towards the development of a central has /rail interchange at Bradford. Announcing this on Wednesday, Mr John Peyton, Minister for Transport Industries, claimed that it was the most ambitious interchange proposal yet approved by the DoE.
Stands for 87 buses will be provided, with walkways to and between the-bus platforms which will share a concourse with new rail passenger facilities, all under cover. A bus depot under the station will be capable of handling 200 buses, and facilities will include workshops.
A small coach station may be added to the bus /rail centre later. The station itself will have an inquiry office, waiting rooms, a restaurant and kiosks, and there will be escalator access to the platforms.
When completed in 1975 the bus station will be used by 280 buses in the morning peak hour—all 23 of the NEC company services into Bradford and 27 local routes operated by the municipal undertaking.
