Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

the day when tipping vehicles will be withdrawn from certain Mendip quarries who refuse to pay economic rates (see "The Commercial Motor ", June 18) has been extended for a fortnight.

It is understood that certain of the quart, masters have indicated that they are now prepared to negotiate and there were hopes that agreement could be reached before July 14.

Air Pollution Concern

THE Minister of Transport will consider making suitable regulations if studies of air pollution by Ministry of Transport technical officers disclose the need for greater control of vehicle emissions—and if practical means of achieving it are available.

The Minister stated this in the Commons last week when he was questioned about anti-pollution measures in the United States. His technical officers were continually studying measures in America to combat vehicle pollution, he said, but legislation in that country was directed largely at a form of pollution not significant in the different conditions here.

Mrs. Joyce Butler (Labour, Wood Green) spoke of public and medical concern about this form of air pollution.
