CONSEQUENT on applications by Chesterfield Corporation to raise their bus fares, the Midland General Omnibus Co., Ltd., Mansfield District Traction Co., Ltd., Trent Motor Traction Co., Ltd., East Midland Motor Services, Ltd., and Sheffield Corporation are seeking permission for similar increases on services affected by the proposals. The main proposal is that ordinary single fares from 2d. to 61c11.. by increased by id.

ALBIONS WITH LEYLAND OIL ENGINES

HAVING standardized on oilers, the City Tramways Co., Ltd., Capetown, are now installing Leyland 125 b.h.p. oil engines and synchromesh gearboxes in their buses to replace Albion 150-155 b.h.p. petrol engines. Eighteen Albion double-deckers recently purchased from South African Railways and Harbours are concerned.

The lighting systems have been converted from 12v. to 24v. The seating capacity of the bodies, built by Bus Bodies (S.A.), Ltd., is to be increased from 66 to 72, with standing room for eight persons.

Four of the vehicles will be run in Capetown on a route taken over by the company from the Board. The other 14 will be operated by a newly formed subsidiary, Bay Passenger Transport Co., Ltd., between Port Elizabeth and the New Brighton native location.
