THAT the change-over from trams to buses had been the salvation of the transport undertaking in Wigan was asserted by Councillor Ball, chairman of the transport committee, at a dinner held by Wigan Corporation to celebrate the liquidation of the debt on the Corporation Transport Department. The tramway debt, which amounted to £150,000, had overshadowed the department for seven years. It was, however, discharged last March, and reduced fares were introduced on April 1.
