Ford Transit van at the company's Southampton factory will cease tomorrow (Friday, 26 July). The closure ends 41 years of Transit production at the site and more than 100 years of Ford vehicle production in Britain.
The last Transit van, number 2,200,173, to roll off the Southampton line, will be added to the Ford heritage collection, with another six donated to local charities. A total of 531 employees will be affected by the closure, with many redeployed in the company, or opting for voluntary separation or early retirement.
Ford's Dagenham stamping and tooling operation will also close on Friday, affecting 750 employees. Production sites will remain at Ford's Dagenham and Bridgend engine plants, while powertrain and CV engineering will continue in Dunton, Essex.
