by Bryan Jarvis • Ipswich-based furniture manufacturer Alstons has boosted its carrying capacity with a batch of new drawbar outfits from Cartwrights of Altrincham.
The mix of 16 swap boxes, four centre-axled trailers and six Volvo FI,10s and Mercedes 2534s are close coupled at 350nun via the Pietz-Pal extending At frame.
For Alstons, the near-E360,000 investment has given it 140m" ■4 load volume; an extra 550t, compared with its existing 12.2m drawbars.
Following the industry trend, the rigs have air suspension on all axles which makes demounting an easier operation.
Cartwright's Clearlift demount system has smaller rollers to gain extra lift clearance on uneven sites.
Each body has its own light internal lift which travels its length and vertically to stack or retrieve loads at any point of its interior.
The lift was specially developed for Alstons and is fully galvanised with a hinged aluminium platform that stows against the body side when not in use.
