• There is no intention of changing the statutory basis of the Road Transport Training Scheme levy. This was made plain in the Commons last week by Mr. Harold Walker, Under-Secretary for Employment and Productivity, when he was asked by Sir John Langord-Holt (Tory, Shrewsbury) whether participation in the scheme could be made voluntary.
Mr Walker said the RTITB expected to spend approximately Cl 7m on training grants in the next training year. This was an increase over current expenditure, and reflected the continued growth expected in claims from employers for grants.
Mrs. Castle had received representations from associations of employers on a number at pomts t the Board's latest levy scheme, added Mr. Walker,
