He welcomes the URTU initiative: "There is always room in the marketplace For a professionally run agency that looks after its drivers," he says. "Anything that will help to drive out the cowboy element of this business has to be a good thing."
But Brian Wilkinson, managing director of HMS Distribution Personnel, thinks URTU might find it difficult to penetrate the agency market. "I can't see URTU's company having a great deal of effect," he says. "A number of organisations have tried to set up agencies but have had difficulties—I would also question the concept of a premium rate service because the market place is particularly price sensitive at the moment."
