Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A Leicester-based training and relief driver agency is putting drivers through a fuel-saving driving course.

John Coates, managing director of J Coates, says the course should help drivers to use 10% less fuel.

The course teaches drivers to plan better and to understand their engines. Coates says the trick is to teach drivers to use fewer revs when they change gear or climb hills and watch their power band indicators. Many still use the engine to slow down, he adds, despite ABS.

The course involves three to five hours of one-to-one practical instruction and two to three hours' group work and costs around £180.
