/ LEP Group, the international freight forwarder has expanded its European transport network by acquiring the West German transport and distribution company Wohlfarth Group for 29 million.
Wohlfarth operates nearly 1,000 vehicles from 33 locations and employs more than 1,500 people. It runs road/rail depots in Frankfurt, Cologne, Barcelona, Milan and Paris, specialises in engineering products and white goods, and has contracts with VolkswagenAudi and Mercedes-Benz. In 1988 it made a net profit of 21.95m on a 293.7m turnover.
The acquisition is part of the rapid development of LEP Swift, the LEP Group's specialist distribution subsidiary, and follows the acquisition of businesses in Belgium and the Netherlands.
