At the rear of the vehicle are four jacks which give stability and support when the escape is extended. Until the rear road springs are locked, the jacks cannot be, released, and until (bey have been lowered the ladder gear cannot be operated.
Anti-bumping devices are installed which stop the operation of the escape instantly should the ladder come into contact with any obstruction while it is being moved.
