Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

ACARBURETTER which embodies several interesting and useful features, and is known as the Puptett Sleeve Carburetter, is being manufaetwat by T. Puplott, Ltd., of 172, Oxford Road, Manchester. Perhaps. the feature which most impresses one when first examining the drawings of this accessory is. its simplicity. There is nothing particularly novel about the principle of operation, as it incorporates the usual . slow-running and main jets. The.principal feature, however, is. that the Choke sleeve -is adjustable, as well as both the main and auxiliary jots. If the reader refers to the illustration of the device he will see that the main jet, consists of a tapered barrel through which passes the needle for adjusting the jet. At its upper end the main jet protrudes slightly -through the centre of a Targe.cone. Above-this cone is a choke adjusting sleeve, which screws on to the

• barrel of the carburetter. The bottom.

of this sleeve is also coned, and its distance from the jot conc can be regulated in order to alter the speed of the flow of air past the jet. The choke sleeve is provided with a locking set screw which. can be controlled from the dash.

The pilot or slow-running jet is 'formed by a channel in the main barrel of the carburettor twhich leads to an orifice opening on to the seating of the butter, fly type throttle, so that when the latter is opened slightly there is air extremely rapid flow of air past this orifice. The petrol supply to the pilot jet can also be controlled by an adjustable needle.

Above the main jet is a,drilled. spraying baffle to assist in atomizing the fuel. The reet of the carburetter is of standard design, incorporating the usual float chamber with a lid carrying the balance weights for the petrol needle valve.

This carburetter is made in four sizes for engines of horse-power ranging from 1 to 8, 8 to 20,-20-50, and 35-50,
