Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

Richard Green

The Mercedes-Benz Used Truck Centre at Wentworth Park operates as an independent trade outlet, set up to deal directly with operators. Its stock of vehicles, all less than five years old, range from Vito vans to the latest top-weight tractive units. Most examples of the Actros will still be covered by the original two-year warranty, but all used trucks are sold with a six-month driyeline warranty.

"The Actros has been in the field for little over two years so they are still thin on the ground as far as the used truck market Is concerned," says retail sales manager Richard Green. "Most of our stock comes back from the fleet sales department or CharterWay, M-B's leasing company. Most repair and maintenance contracts last for at least three years so we don't expect to start seeing them in numbers until the end of the year. Most of the models we have in stock are ex-demonstrators. "Actros specification is fairly comprehensive so It COWS most requirements," he adds. "The main extra we are asked for is the air management kit. There has been quite a bit more interest in the three-axle units now that the higher weight limit

has been introduced. New sales last year showed a strong preference for 350 and 400hp V6 models with 4x2 1835/40 units selling at almost twice the rate of the 6x2 2535/40s. More powerful models, fitted with the V8 engine, are proving less popular, although many of those used on international work have been supplied with the executive-spec MegaSpace cabs, which at the moment are only available at 430tip and above. The large storage cabinet in place of a tap bunk was first displayed at the Hanover Show and so it has only been available for the past six months.

"Prices for a low mileage 1997 fleet-spec 1840 demonstrator with about 80,000 miles on the clock start at £36,000," Green reports. "The long-distance cab adds an extra £2,000. There are even fewer 2540s about but they're much In demand at 144,000. MegaSpace cabs do not figure in the used truck market yet."
