• Dennis Specialist Vehicles has taken one of its Cummins C-Series-engined Javelin demonstration coaches on a tour of Europe to familiarise mechanics at Cummins' European service outlets with the chassis.
The company has opted into the Cummins European support service and selected Cummins dealers are to provide full back-up for all aspects of the chassis. Cummins service is controlled from national head offices or main distributors, which provide a 24-hour English-speaking telephone service and can arrange the despatch of service vehicles.
The coach has visited Cummins sites at Boulogne, Pontoise, Paris, Lyon, Zurich, Frankfurt and in Belgium.
Dennis is following up on the tour by sending a bare chassis to Frankfurt for use in a Cummins training course which will be attended by mechanics from all over Europe and is also despatching comprehensive stocks of spare parts to depots in Austria, Belgium, France, West Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Yugoslavia.
The European parts stocks, to be held by Dennis dealers, include all aspects of the chassis including gaskets, axles, hubs and brakes, steering gear, clutch, transmission, electrics, instruments and sus pension. The service outlets will also have repair manuals, parts lists and wall charts giving full mechanical chassis details.
Engine parts will be stocked by Cummins itself, which already offers the C-Series in Europe and is backing other vehicles including C-Seriesengined Ford Cargo trucks.
Javelin operators will be able to take advantage of the Cummins facilities which give Dennis a European support and warranty package designed to be at least as good as many offered by established manufacturers. DSV is also offering European and British touring kits on a sale-or-return basis.
Dennis is one of a number of British manufacturers taking advantage of Cummins' European service facilities, including truck builder ERF and coach manufacturers MCW and Hestair Duple.
