and excessive clutch wear is a sure sign that drivers are pulling away in too high a gear. The other component that suffers from this treatment is the gearbox: Normands has a selection of gearboxes lying about that have been so damaged.
The oil level on the Fuller gearbox is checked using a level plug on the nearside, and like the rear axle, uses EP90. The universal joints have either one or two nipples, and a good heave upwards should reveal any play in the gearbox output bearing.
