the bottom of the brake plate. Although this vehicle had around 12mm of lining left, the shoes needed changing. The rivets retaining the linings have heads nearly 10mrn thick, and left, they would have scored the drum before the next service.
The rear hubs on thse trucks regularly see the spanner, as the hub reduction gears tend to break up. They are replaced by a beefed up version of the original design that doesn't give trouble. The latest ERF trucks do not have hub reduction, which Patel reckons is a great improvement.
