from the ERF is to keep every bearing well greased. All the nipples are the hexagonal slide-on type, and grease must be pumped into bearings such as these shackles until fresh grease squeezes from the bearing. The shackles run on parrallel pins, which are checked with a crow-bar at every service.
A tapping hammer is taken to all of the major mounting bolts under the chassis, particularly the U bolts holding the axle to the road springs. To make sure that grease makes its way right round the shackle pins, the weight should be taken off the axles.
