Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Cramic Engineering has started producing what it claims is the most powerful mechanical machine-bed vice available. It is called the Dynagrip and consists of two assemblies, a pressure assembly and an anvil.

The pressure assembly, which can exert a force of up to six tonnes without using air or hydraulics, is being produced at Crainic's Banbury factory. A worldwide marketing agreement has been signed with CPR Engineering, which holds the patent for Dynagrip.

The pressure assembly uses two balanced wedges operated by a lead screw turning on selfaligning bearings. A universal anvil fixing is claimed to make Dynagrip compatible with any machine beds, and a torque limiter provides overload protection. The Dynagrip costs £760, and Cramic is expecting to build substantial overseas sales. The vice has been extensively used in the Cramic workshop, and the managing director believes that the Dynagrip is one of the most useful workshop clamping devices to have been developed for years.
