Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

which the kingpin was extended upwards into the forward part of the trailer chassis and was connected to a multiple disc brake, air operated. The kingpin was prevented from any rotation in the fifth wheel and its disc brake came into operation in tandem with the main braking system. Can you please tell me who manufactured this device? Can you tell me of any other anti-jacknife schemes and any technical literature on this subject?

AThe particular fifth wheel coupling to which you refer is manufactured by Hope Technical Developments Ltd, High Street, Ascot, Berks. It is, as you say, a multiple plate disc brake which is fitted into the trailer chassis to lock the kingpin in the event of the brakes themselves locking. Further anti-jacknife devices include Dunlop's Maxaret antilocking brake system and Girling Skidchek system. Both these devices are similar in operation in that they put the brakes on and off at high speed when a wheel lock situation is sensed. This prevents complete locking from occurring.
