Accuracy, that's the thing. I think it was Omar Khyam who said "The moving finger writes and having writ moves on." The terribly frightening thing is once it's down on paper retraction is difficult.

Take for example the European Parliament Report no. 31 published last month where the Transport Committee chairman, John Evans, one of the UK's socialist members, is reported to have said that he would do his best to get the Transport and General Workers Union to accept tachographs for their own good!

When Mr Evans was contacted in a short but well worded sentence he said he had been misquoted. In view of his party's attitude to tachographs, that's a statement that doesn't need confirmation.
