Scottish routeing

THE Freight Transport Association has told regional authorities in Scotland it cannot agree to regional policies on lorry routeing before the Scottish Development Department takes a decision on a network of routes for Scotland.

It wants the SDD to take a lead and produce plans for a network of lorry routes in advance of the effective date next January, of the Heavy Vehicle Control and Regulation Act.

Belsay by-pass

PUBLIC hearings into proposed improvements of the A696 trunk road between Newcastle and Edinburgh will be held on February 25-26 in the Belsay First School.

Rentals doubled

THE London and Lincolnshire trailer rental company, Dabbs Trailer Rentals Ltd, has doubled the size of its rental fleet.

The company has taken delivery of five Crane Fruehauf 12-meter tandem-axle dry-freight vans, and next month will add 30 Crane Fruehauf tilt semi-trailers to its fleet.

Depot in demand

NORTHAMPTON Clearance Depot Ltd, established just over two years ago, is becoming increasingly important as a major deep sea terminal.

Figures released this week reveal that in 1976 NCD handled 2,000 more 20ft container equivalent units than in the previous 12 months.

Negotiations are currently under way with several cargo lines and container operators.

Trunk report

THE Leitch Committee on trunk road assessment will report in about six months, Baroness Birk, Environment Department Under Secretary, told the Lords last week.
