Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NEARLY 13m. vehicles were in use on the roads of Great Britain in the third quarter of 1965, when the annual Ministry of Transport census was taken. This represented an increase of 5 per cent over the same period of 1964.

The increase was mainly accounted for by the growth in the number of. private cars—there were almost 9m. in use in 1965, some 670,000 more than in the same period of 1964. The number of goods vehicles rose by 21,000 to 1,541,000.

More detailed information will be given in the Ministry's publication "Highway Statistics, 1965", which will be issued later this year.
