THE Secretary-General of IRU recently met the manager of the Mont Blanc road tunnel company to discuss the possibility of special rates being offered to road hauliers using the facilities of the tunnel. The company was not prepared to offer any season ticket concessions, but it proposed to introduce a system of invididual current accounts for hauliers who were regular users of the tunnel. Under this scheme carriers with a minimum of 15-20 journeys per month through the tunnel would be entitled to claim monthly rebates.
