Little News of Further Purchases of List 8 Uaits : List R.5 Results Expected Soon

WITH the exception of Yorkshire, where 15 vehicles are reported to have been taken over from British Road Services during the past few days, there has been no news of further purchases of units in list 8 from any of the areas.

List R.5 closed on Wednesday and the names of successful tenderers are expected to be disclosed soon.

NORTH-WEST A Blackburn operator, Mr. J. H. Wilson, 756 Livesey Branch Road, Feniscowles, has taken over four lorries and a trailer (261 tons) in a first purchase. Three lorries and two trailers (21 tons) have been taken over by H. Nuttall and Sons, Ltd., 195 Middleton Road, Heywood, from Mr. H. Nuttall, of the same address. The company have also made a direct purchase of a lorry (3 tons). Four vehicles, including two articulated

outfits (152 tons), have been made over to Mr. J. W. Ratcliffe, Low Bank Road Garage, Ashton-in-Makerfield, by Warrington Warehousing Co., 40a Ellesmere Road, Stockton Heath. Mr. Ratcliffe has sold one of them (3 tons) to J. Ledwidge, Ltd., 61 Thornfield Road, Liverpool. He has also transferred a lorry (41 tons) to Poplar Motor Services, Poplar Garage, Knutsford Road, Lymm, Cheshire.

Two of three other lorries (141 tons) bought by the, Warrington Warehousing Co. have also been assigned. One (42 tons) has gone to A. V. Barton, Ltd., Alfred Street Garage, Newton-le-Willows, and one (4.i tons) to Messrs. Calvert Bros., Mafeking House, Brock. Three vehicles (10 tons) have been bought by Messrs. R. S. Snaylam and S. Cowburn (Snaylam and Cowburn), 297 Vauxhall Road, Liverpool. The North-Western Licensing Authority

has also licensed the following ex-B.R.S. vehicles: Two (6 tons) to Mr. T. Ashley, 314 Chester Road, Hartford, Northwich, assigned bY Mr. J. Caffery, 2 Shearn Street, Northwich; one (31 tons) to R. A. Delahunt, Ltd.. Sutton Heath, St. Helens, assigned by T. Guy, Ltd., Blackhorse Farm, Burscough; one (31 tons) to Heatons Transport (Home Farm IMawdeslcyl, Ltd,), Dentons Green Garage, Dentons Green Lane, St. Helens, assigned by Mr. G. Smith, 357 Downhall Green Road, North Ashton, near Wigan, one (71 tons) to Messrs. T. Smith and R. Wigman of the same address, and one

(3 tons) to Messrs. N. and L. Watson (N. Watson and Co.), 83 Ramsden Road, Wardle, Rochdale, both assigned by Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Collyhurst, Manchester, 2; one (72 tons) to T. Nelson (Liverpool), Ltd., 11 Old Hall Street, Liverpool, assigned by Mr. J. J. Brown, 120 Waldgrave Road, Liverpool, 15; H. Taylor (Transport), Ltd., 12 Knowsley Road, Liverpool, 19, one (41 tons); and Mr. R. A. Cropper, Sledbrook Farm, Pemberton, Wigan, one (4 tons). YORKSHIRE

Another four lorries have been acquired by J. G. Fielder (Haulage). Ltd., Fitzwilliam Street, Bradford. One of them has been transferred to Messrs. W. Jones and Son, Salt Street Garage, Manningham, Bradford.

S. A. Bell. Ltd, 37 Rutland Street, Filey, have bought three vehicles; H. Cawthorne B20 and Co., Ltd., 70 Stafford Road, Sheffield, 2, two; and Messrs. M. Craven, A. V. Harrowsmith and J. V. Forstcr (Victoria Motors), 147 Leeds Road, Newton Hull, Wakefield, two.

Our Yorkshire correspondent has also reported the following recent purchases: Mr. J. J. Ostle, 74 High Street, Skipton, one lorry ; T. Rodwell and Son, Ltd., Woodside Garage, Hough Lane, Wombwell, near Barnsley, one; Tockwith Transport Co., Brewery Yard, Tockwith, York, an articulated vehicle ; and Messrs. Firth and Walker, Bridgefield Garage, Elland, one, assigned to Cusick (Oldham), Ltd., Thornton Street, Collyhurst, Manchester, 2.

WEST MIDLANDS Six lorries (25 tons) based at Newcastleunder-Lyme have been bought by Stableford Transport, Ltd., Stableford, in a first purchase. Another two lorries (6 tons) have been taken over by D. Scragg (Transport), Ltd., Brookhouse Garage, Cheadle. J. L. Cooper, Ltd., Church Garage, Milton, have also bought two more (61 tons).

A. W. Lewis (Hauliers). Ltd., Church Garage, Milton. have added a further three (8/ tons) ex-B.R.S. vehicles to their fleet. One of these (3 tons) was transferred to them by Beresford Transport, Ltd.. High Street, Tunstall, who have also made over two vehicles (61 tons) to Mr. H. Warburton. 2 Warrington Street, Fenton, and one (71 tons) to Robinson Border Transport, Ltd.. Carlisle.

T. Holmes (West Bromwich). Ltd.. 12-14 Moor Street, West Bromwich. have bought a lorry (3 tons) from Mrs. W. M. Culpin, Lower Trinity Street. Bordesley; Mr. W. E. Lewis. 112 Salop Street. Dudley. one (3 tons) from Mr. A. C. Horton. Peel Bungalow. Hollyhead Road. Albrighton; and Mr. T. Brain, Railway Street Garage, Tunstall, one (3 tons) from Messrs. Johnson Transport, Phrenix Street, Tunstall. Four lorries (14 tons) bought by Longton Transport, Ltd.. Church Street, Longton, have been divided between Dale and Drake, Ltd.. Church Street, Longton (two-1-'7 tons), and Mr. P. R. Wardle, Macclesfield (two— 7 tons). Dale and Drake, Ltd., have also been granted a special A licence for a Waller five lorries (171 tons), one of which (3/ tons) has been transferred to Mr. G. F. Williams, Newton Villa, Pcrshall, Eccleshall.

Messrs. C. J. Jones and W. T. Meredith (Jones and Meredith), Hillcrcst, Marcie, have transferred the two vehicles they have bought, one to Mr. W. T. Meredith, Nurdens, Woolhope, and the other to Mr. E. T. J. Gammond, Frenchestown, Hampton Bishop. Special A licences have been granted to Mr. A. Oakley, Boot Inn, Orleton, for two lorries (6/ tons), and Mr. N. V. Allman, The Laurels, Shebdon, for one (3 tons), SOUTH WALES

Licences have been granted to the following by the South Wales Licensing Authority: W. G. Davies (Landore), Ltd., Arfryn, Pontlas-sr, Morriston, Swansea, for three vehicles (19 tons); Mr. R. 3. Hughes, Warren Villa, High Street, Presteigne, one (31 tons); Mr. A. G. Hulin, Mount Pleasant, Kilgetty, one (22 tons); Messrs. J. Jones and Sons, Cross Garage, Ystradgynlais, two (121 tons): Newport Motor (Transport) Co., East Usk Road, Newport, one (71 tons); Messrs. Roach and Vaughan, 37 Coronation Avenue. LONDON AND HOME COUNTIES Deans' Transport (Edmonton:), Ltd., 35 Waverley Road, London, N.17, have purchased a further five lorries (16 tons 3 cwt.). Other repeat purchasers are T. Mitcham and Sons, Ltd., High Road, Seven Kings, Essex. They have taken over four lorries (11 tons 17 cwt.). Five vehicles (24 tons 2 cwt.) have been transferred to E. and T. Motors, Ltd., 655-661 High Road, London, E.11, by Mr. T. Regan, Chun Farm, Horsmonden, Kent.

Further assignments by Valliant Direct Coaches, Ltd., 38 Uxbridge Road, London, W.5, are: one lorry (2 tons 16 cwt.) to Mr. G. Ferguson, 100 Homestead Way, New Addington. Surrey: one (3 tons) to Mr. T. McKay, 9 Denbigh Place, London, S.W.I ; and two (5 tons lfit cwt.) to Mr. W. J. Lacey, Colombine, Inkerman Drive, Hazlemere, High Wycombe.

Messrs. Fergusonand Pearce. 118 Betterton Road, Rainham, Essex. have taken over two lorries (6 tons) from Trinity Haulage Services, Ltd.. 1-3 Mona Street, London, E.16; P. and M. Kaye. Four lorries and two trailers (22 tons) have gone to R. Swain and Sons, Ltd., 4 Watling Street, Strood. Two vehicles have been purchased by each of the following: A. S. Neaves (Eastling Transport). Ltd., Eastling (6 tons); Messrs. Scott's Transport, 20 Water Lane, Faversham (6 tons): Martins Transport. Ltd., Sittingbourne (6 tons); Mr. A. E. Parker, Fairway, 45 Fishhourne Road, Chichester (5/ tons): and Mr. B. W. Manscr, Forge Garage, Horsebridge, Hailsham (7 tons).

F. J. Hill (Dunstable), Ltd., The Old Brewery, Dunstable, who have bought another four lorries (14 tons 7 cwt.), have transferred one (3 tons 18 cwt) to Mr. C. S. Warren, 12 Queen Street, Houghton Regis, Dunstable.
