EXPORTS of commercial vehicles for 1,-.0 1954 numbered 126,732 units valued at £69.3m. Compared with 1953, these figures show an increase in volume of 15,400, and in value of almost £6m. During the year commercial-vehicle output was 270,025, or 30.000 units more than in 1953.
During December the average weekly output was 5,598 units, the total for the month being 27,988. Of these, 13,623 were for export and 14,365 for the borne market.
Goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types totalled 27,163, of which 15,429 were under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 9.880 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 1,854 over 6 tons. In the same period 719 passenger vehicles were produced, of which 623 were single-deck and 86 double-deck motorbuses and 10 were trolleybuses. There were 106 battery-electrics produced.
Of the 260,633 goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types built during 1954, 143,384 were under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 97,020 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 20,229 over 6 tons. The total of passenger vehicles produced was 8,081 of which 6,250 were singledeck and 1,762 double-deck motorbuses and 69 were trolleybuses. Batteryelectrics numbered 1,311.
Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, exports during December reached 14,614 units, their value, including dumpers and industrial trucks, being £7,986,062. To this sum must be added £9,105,273 for parts and accessories which totalled £86,529,085 for the year.
