WHEN Newbould and Dewhirst, VT Ltd., Rutland Road, Sheffield, were fined £45 at Sheffield last week for having no Excise licence, no insurance, two breaches of their carrier's licence and failing to produce. records, they elected to go to trial by jury on charges of fraudulently using a licence and registration mark. Sheffield police, it was stated, stopped a lorry owned by the company in Sheffield, and then sent a message to Lancashire constabulary, who stopped another lorry in Widnes. One lorry was carrying an original and the other a duplicate Excise licence for the same registration.

Harold Smith, company secretary, Carlby Road, Sheffield, also elected to gb to trial on a charge of making a false declaration in connection with a licence application.
