Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

SCHEMES for the nationalization of passenger transport in other parts of the country will follow the plan which is already being worked out for

the north-east. This news was given by the Minister of Transport in the House of Commons, on Monday.

He said that he had so far, made no use of his power to direct the British Transport Commission to prepare and submit area schemes for road passenger transport. The Commission

was, however:now going into the question of-a north-eastern area scheme, "and," he added, "of course, others will follow."

Mr. Renton told the Minister that the chairman of the Road 'Transport

Executive had indicated that the '11.T.C, intended to take over all road passenger transport services in the ' country. This statement had caused grave concern, said Mr. Renton, especially to -municipalities.

He asked for an assurance that these sehemes would not be formed merely to provide revenue to help the railways.

The Minister gave no reply when asked for an assurance that the forma illation of any area scheme would not be followed by an increase in the cost to the public.

THE whole of the capital of Eddison Plant, Ltd., which operates road rollers and other contractors' plant, has been acquired by the British Electric Traction Co., Ltd. Mr. Raymond W. Birch, Mr. P. G. Stone Clark, and Mr. E. L. Taylor have replaced Mr. Edward Barford, Mr. E. E. G. Odds and Mr. FL C. Ryan as directors. Mr. Birch has been appointed chairman.

SATURDAY AFTERNOON PAY VINDINGS of the arbitration tribunal on the claim of passenger transport workers for payment at time-and-a-half after 1 p.m. on Saturdays are expected at the end of this week.
