TNTIMATION has been given that lthe question of whether Glasgow Corporation should continue the practice of permitting children up to the age of five years to travel free on corporation buses will come before the Traffic Commissioners at their next Sitting in Glasgow, probably on February 28.
At a meeting of the transport committee, on February 16, the town clerk reported that intimation has been received from the railway companies, that they intend to oppose the corporation in regard to the present system of allowing children up to five years of age to travel free on city buses. The companies state that they will request the Commissioners to fix the limit of free travel for children at three years of age and under, as is the rule on the railways.
The transport committee has decided to oppose. this and to ask for continuance of the present system so far as the bus services are concerned.
The town clerk intimated that the railway companies intend to make similar objection in respect of privately owned buses. The question, it is understood, is regarded as one of considerable importance by the Commissioners.
