Stoving Oven Range nEVE'LOPED by Automatic Equipment Ltd. is a new range of flame-proof -continuous stoving ovens for processing plastics and metal components. Components suitable for stoving in these ovens include electrical instruments, automobile accessories and items decorated with flammable materials which require rapid drying to keep flow-line systems continuously moving.

Basically the unit comprises a totally enclosed mesh conveyor, an oven, flash-off tunnel and a forced cooling section. If the unit is intended for use with flammable materials it can be heated either electrically or by steam. In the case of nonflammable items heating can be by infra-red or by forced draught (using gas, oil or steam as the heating medium) or a combination of both.

Components are loaded on a mesh conveyor with a variablespeed travel fo adjust rates of stoving, flash off and cooling. A tensioning device is fitted to the transit conveyor and the drive mechanism is totally enclosed for safety.

The plant can be used with fully automatic painting machines or in a manual spray painting shop where components can be channelled to a common staving oven. All electrical control gear is housed in a cubicle mounted on the side of the unit.

Metal-spraying Gun AN improved unit to control the feed of metal wire being sprayed is now incorporated in a new version of the Metco Type 7E metal-spraying gun. Called the Metco, Type 7E, Mark II, the new gun is designed for high-speed applications of coatings of aluminium, babbitt, lead, tin, or zinc.

The gun is pneumatically operated to give increased power to grip and feed large diameter metallizing wires. It will spray a 0-002 in. thick coating of aluminium over 600 sq. ft. per hour with A in. diameter wire, or 650 sq. ft. per hour using zinc wire. A thumb-operated push-button actuates the pneumatic unit to start and stop the wire being sprayed. This means that wire is not wasted when the gun is not directed at the work—also it can be restarted instantly when required.

A NEW range of electrically heated, vertical, forced-air ' NEW furnaces has been introduced by Lectramatec (Furnaces) Ltd. These are designed for heat treating a variety of ferrous and non-ferrous materials and for tempering springs, saw blades, bolts, washers and so on. They are also suitable for the age hardening and precipitation treatment of aluminium alloys.

The furnaces are made in seven separate sizes, rated from 10 to 60 kW to give a temperature range of from 0 to 700°C. The heating elements are made from coiled 80/20 nickel chrome rod mounted on porcelain holders spaced at equal distances around the furnace walls to give even, overall heating. Heat is circulated uniformly throughout the furnace by a fan driven by an electric motor, mounted centrally in the base of the furnace. Temperature is automatically controlled and is claimed to be accurate within ±1°C.

Main works containers of either mild or stainless steel can be supplied with the furnace; also specially designed shallow trays are supplied in a range of sizes as optional extras. Loading is simplified by the large swing aside furnace lid which is mounted on bearings for easy movement.
