r'OMMENTING on the decision by
, B.R.S. (Meat Haulage), Ltd., to terminate their contract with United Carriers, Ltd., Mr. P. J. R. Tapp, chairman of U.C.L., told The Commercial Motor last week that "friendly and happy relationships would continue."
A provisional date of December 30 had been fixed for a meeting of U.C.L. members when the future policy of the company would be determined, he added. "Other meetings are expected to follow as the position resolves itself." The termination of the present agreement will be effected from an agreed date but not later than April 30, 1960. Asked what effect the withdrawal would have on vehicle strength available to U.C.L., Mr. Tapp said that in one class of vehicle it would represent a loss of five-eighths.
B.R.S. (Meat Haulage), Ltd., will operate and trade directly with their customers. Asked why the development had occurred, a B.R.S. spokesman stated that it was considered to be advantageous to operate independently.
