THE Institute of Public Cleansing will hold their annual conference. at Portsmouth from June 14-17. Among subjects to be dealt with in papers are: (1) The design of street furniture, parking meters and the Litter Act, as they affect public cleansing; (2) preventive maintenance of vehicles; (3) application of electricity to refuse disposal; (4) compaction of refuse for transport; • (5) "lifting (followed by a demonstration).
The demonstration of vehicles will take place at the central cleansing and haulage depot, Portsmouth, on June 15. Earth-moving equipment will be demonstrated on June 16. Mr. H. M. Ellis, the new president, will he installed on the opening day.
