BECAUSE be considered it "a most .1--1 unusual case," Mr. A. Robertson, Scottish Deputy Licensing Authority. lars. week reserved his decision until be had more evidence upon an application by John Rhind (Transport), Ltd., Aberdeen, to base in that city 28 vehicles operating elsewhere 'under a special-A licence.
The company already had 12 A-licence vehicles in Aberdeen but desired to amalgamate with them 15 vehicles from London, nine from Glasgow, and four from Perth.
Munro's Transport (Aberdeen), Ltd„ were allowed to change the base of four of their vehicles from London to Aberdeen, and three from Glasgow to Aberdeen. Charles Alexander and Partners (Transport), Ltd., were permitted to transfer a vehicle from Liverpool to Aberdeen. It was claimed that it was inconvenient to maintain the vehicle at Liverpool.
British Railways opposed Munro's and Alexander.
ROSEHEARTY OPERATORS
OPPOSE ALEXANDER WHEN W. Alexander and Sons, Ltd., YV applied to the Scottish Traffic Commissioners in Aberdeen last week to extend a late-night service from Fraserburgh to Rosehearty, they were opposed by Messrs. Simpson's Motors, Rosehearty. It was stated that the objectors already ran a service over the route at about the same time as that proposed by Alexander, and that if the application succeeded Alexander would "have the edge."
Mr. A. Robertson, deputy chairman, prevailed upon the representatives of both sides to discuss the position, which they did during an adjournment. Later Mr. R. C. B. Currie, for the applicants said that both sides had agreed to adjourn the hearing indefinitely and would meet to resolve their problems. Mr. Robertson welcomed this.
OBITUARY
WE regret to announce the deaths of MR. Dye IVIACLAcHLAN, MR. C. W. WARD and MR. L. C. Boos. _ Mr. MacLachlan, who was 61, was sales contract manager of Albion Motors, Ltd. He joined the Scotstoun administrative staff of the company in 1914.
Mr. Ward was district manager for the India Tyre and Rubber. Co., Ltd., at Tooting.
Mr. Boos, who was 56, was a director of the North British Rubber Co., Ltd., and other concerns.
ONE WAY IN HALIFAX ONE-WAY traffic in central streets, including the A58 main road between Yorkshire and Lancashire, is proposed by Halifax Highways Committee. Under the system a seven-lane road junction at Cow Green would be eliminated and several bus routes would have to be changed. It is hoped to secure a dispensation to bring the system into experimental operation next month.
