AN MP with nagging doubts over HGV wheel safety has confirmed he will continue campaigning for enhanced testing procedures after transport minister Mike Penning refused his request.
Paul Goggins met Motor Wheel Services (MWS) on 16 August and it says he gave his full support to lobbying the government for a review into how many road accidents have been caused by wheel failure.

Goggins led a debate on the issue in Parlia ment last April, but was told by Penning that VOSA records show that the wheel failure rate is only 0.006%.
MWS is encouraging wheel distributors and manufacturers to provide evidence showing that the VOSA data is incorrect, as well as lobbying MEP Brian Simpson.
“Goggins has been very supportive and he will continue fighting the fight,” says an MWS spokesman. “We showed him a selection of damaged wheels taken off vehicles on the road. We have his full commitment to keep pushing this through by whatever means necessary.”
