Workers at Ansa Logistics have suspended strike action while they study a new pay deal. Sally Nash reports.

A NEW DEAL has been thrashed out between car delivery firm Ansa Logistics and the Transport & General Workers Union with all strike action suspended while the workforce studies the details.

The T&G remains tightlipped about the new deal, saying only that it will be put to the vote this week. The union will be balloting its members to see if they want to accept the new package.

A spokesman says: "We would like to keep it private for the time being, but I can say that all action remains suspended."

At the beginning of August, 350 T&G Ansa Logistics staff began two weeks of strike action. They were protesting over what union officials described as the "imposi tion of wage cuts and compulsory redundancies, plus the termination of substantial parts of the union's national agreement".

Action was suspended for four days, pending talks with the union. About three quarters of the staff were expected to walk out again on 15 August but this action was halted when the company promised that any redundancies would be voluntary.

Just over two years ago a package of wage cuts was agreed by the union as part of a longer term deal that was supposed to guarantee job security.

Since then the union claims attempts have been made to force through further cuts.
