• Local Ml's and hauliers have stepped up calls for a freeze on Severn Bridge tolls after healthy profits were announced by the company which runs the bridge.
The Anglo-French company Severn River Crossing announced pre-tax profits of 171m for the six months to 30 June—up £1.6m on the same period last year. Its turnover of £181m was up from last year's figure of £16.4m.
Roy Hughes, Labour MP for Newport East, has renewed his demand for a toll freeze and Mike Hellewell, Gloucestershire County Council's area traffic manager for the Forest of Dean, says the pressure will be kept on the company to reduce its charges.
