Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

MISINFORMED DEFENCE • I am writing to correct a comment made in the article on page 20 (Legal News) of the 30 June-6 July issue.

The vehicle in question was detected by the West Midland Traffic Area on 6 August 1987. The Road Freight Vehicle Licence for the vehicle had expired on 30 June 1987 and an application to renew the licence was not made to this office until 8 September 1987. The new licence expiring on 31 August 1988 was issued on the 8 September 1987 being the day of receipt of the application. Contrary to the statement made by Jane Farrer, appearing as McAlonan's defence, there was certainly no administrative error made resulting in a delay in the issue of the vehicle licence.

J Steele, Licensing officer, Dept of Environment for Northern Ireland, Belfast.
