El Ray Smith Demountables has also started building demounts near Melbourne, one of Australia's biggest freight transport centres, following a licensing agreement with Ian McColl of Victoria.
First off the line are two models of the swap-body sys tern; the seven-five for light trucks and the heavy duty tenplus. The most popular size is expected to be on 17-tonne GVW six-wheeled chassis.
The design features guiderails to make the chassis and body self-aligning.
Ray Smith modifies about 1,000 chassis for demounts a year and took 60% of the UK market last year.
