iervices cut

E.' SCOTTISH Traffic Cornstoners in Aberdeen have roved a severe cut-back in Alexander & Sons (Norm) Ltd bus services beta Aberdeen and New PitD.

he bus company said the was uneconomical and the ision leaves only two kday runs instead of six, no Sunday service at all, wen New Pitsligo and the nder the new timetable, ;engers will need to change es at Strichen. However, owing discussions with v Pitsligo Community incil, it was proposed a through-fare should be introduced for the convenience of passengers.

Toby Hodd, representing the community council, said: "We accept the bus company must make a profit, but it must also provide a social service." He added that while they accepted the reduction in services as a "necessary evil", it would result in inconvenience and increased expenditure for those involved.

Mr Hodd said the worst hit will be those who commute to jobs in Aberdeen, as previously the last bus left the city at 6.30pm, but would now leave at 5pm. He suggested an additional service from New Pitsligo to Aberdeen via Fraserburgh. This, he said, would be more convenient, as Fraserburgh has a mere frequent service.

But Derek Stuart, traffic manager with Alexander explained this would involve a more expensive journey and there could be difficulties in avoiding abuse of such a scheme.

While appreciating the difficulties the new timetable would cause to people using the route, the commissioners approved the reduction of services and the introduction of the through-fare via Strichen, but could not approve the route via Fraserburgh.
